Campaign Goals
With the start of the school year, the Del Mar Schools Education Foundation has officially kicked off its Annual ESC Campaign, which raises funds to directly support the Extended Studies Curriculum of Science, Music, Art, Technology and Physical Education. Without our Annual Campaign and the dollars that you contribute, these programs would be greatly reduced across all of our schools and our children would not enjoy the quality of education that they do today.
Each year, the Foundation sets out to raise enough money so that the future our ESC teachers is not at risk for the following school year. Last year, we raised $1.28 million, an amazing amount of money that was enough to support more than 14 credentialed teaching positions across the eight District schools. This year again, we have set out to raise enough money so that our children can be assured of a full slate of credentialed ESC teachers for the next school year. To meet this goal, we need to raise $800 per child. This is a considerable amount of money, but certainly the development of our children is well worth it. Please contribute to the DMSEF today so we can ensure our children’s education for tomorrow.
You should have received an Annual ESC Campaign brochure from the DMSEF in you child’s Back-to-School Packet. On the envelope enclosed with that brochure you’ll see several methods of contributing including a convenient monthly installment plan. If you have any questions regarding the Foundation, please contact us through the Foundation office and someone will gladly address any of your concerns. If you are interested in volunteering to help us meet our goals, we have many ways in which you can do so. Just drop us a line at [email protected], and someone will be in touch. Thank you for reading this far, and thank you in advance for your contribution to the DMSEF.
Enriching Our Schools
In these challenging economic times, California public schools are getting squeezed. State budget cuts over the past 10 years have made it necessary to rely on parent contributions to fully fund our ESC program. In the Del Mar Union School District, the salaries for credentialed teachers for Science, Music, Art, Technology, and Physical Education are funded by YOUR contributions to the DMSEF. The ESC Program enhances and utilizes the core curriculum, crucial to the development of the whole child by providing unique and new ways to develop their ideas.
Every student in our district benefits from the ESC program everyday, so we ask that every family help pay for the cost of these valuable programs. A full ESC program requires parent contributions of $800 per child. While $800 per student is the suggested contribution, please contribute what you can. Contributions at any level are both needed and appreciated. Your contribution is a lasting investment in our school District and our children, with long-term results.
Without sufficient contributions, the ESC program will go away.
Why You Should Contribute
The Extended Studies Curriculum (ESC) program provides credentialed teachers in Science, Music, Art, Technology and Physical Education. These are important subjects for our children!

In the Del Mar Union School District, the salaries for ESC teachers are funded in part by your contributions to the DMSEF.

The ESC program enhances the core curriculum by giving students new and unique ways to develop their own ideas. The DMSEF’s sole function is to raise the necessary funds that support a complete ESC program. Your contribution will ensure this critical program stays intact.
Where Do Your Contributions Go?
With 93% of your contributions going directly to the salaries of teachers who specialize in subjects like Science, Music, Art, Technology and Physical Education, the Del Mar Schools Education Foundation (DMSEF) proves to be a good steward of your tax-deductible contributions.
Why Do We Have Such Low Over-Head?
The DMSEF is made up of two or three parent volunteers that act as school representatives for each of the eight schools in the Del Mar Union School District (DMUSD). These parents communicate the need for contributions and manage fund-raising events and marketing efforts on their campus. To help manage checks and credit card processing, the DMSEF also has a part-time office manager and a contracted accountant. The end result is a fundraising overhead of 3.6% and total overhead of just 7.0%.
What Does That Mean for the Kids?
In June 2014, the DMSEF gave the District a gift of $1,260,000 in restricted funds. “Restricted Funds” means that the District can only use the funds for the salaries of ESC teachers – no DMSEF dollars are used by the District for any other program. Last year, that $1,260,000 gave our children 14 additional ESC teachers who specialize in subjects like Science, Music, Art, Technology and Physical Education.
The DMSEF receives an annual audit and files a tax return – both are available on our website here.
If you have questions, the DMSEF Treasurer, would be happy to meet with you. Please e-mail Dave Wojtkowski at [email protected].
